Library

CIC maintains an open access library space with wireless internet, reading area and a small but expanding list of around 700 titles. The library primarily focuses on exhibition catalogues, artist books, monographs, and critical theory covering various mediums. A particular focus is photography.

We aim to develop the library as an open, discursive space where artists and non-artists alike may engage with literature, multimedia and one another. Where discussion, reading, and writing on art may occur on a strong level, providing room for criticism and awareness of other art practices, as well as existing theories and techniques..

We also aspire to connect and develop our talks, workshops and other programming more closely with the library and its contents, providing connections with key materials and an expansive ground for critical learning to occur.

Our books and videos are currently in the process of being catalogued and organised, and in the longer term we aim to make this accessible through an online database, with regular updates on new materials, and an on-site categorical system, simple in design and easy to use.

The library is maintained in an awareness that there is almost no public access to quality contemporary arts materials in Egypt. International book prices, shipping, and customs charges frequently make even essential books out of budget and reach. We would be delighted to accept relevant publications brought from visiting artists' and curators' own oeuvres, and we are actively contacting publishers for donations of materials. The library is a quiet space, open for general use during CIC’s regular operational hours as well as exhibition timings. Feel free to stop by to peruse the materials, have a cup of tea and a quiet space to work. We’d love to have you!
